Pencil Case Productions are set to bring Ian Wilding’s urban black comedy 'The Carnivores' to The Royal Exchange over several dates in July.
‘The Carnivores’ tells the story of two estranged brothers, Thom and Gramme, who are forced to come together over their mother’s ailing health. Gramme owes money to drug dealers and the wolves are at the door. Thom’s company is in the process of a takeover by an international conglomerate. His wolves are different but no less blood-thirsty.

Shortlisted for the 2004 Patrick White Playwright Award and winner of the Griffin award for New Australian Playwriting in 2005, ‘The Carnivores’ explores themes of fate, our justifications for self-indulgence and the small steps that can lead to our moral downfall. It matches the ethos of Pencil Case, who pride themselves on telling stories about the darker realities of the human condition.
Established in 2014 by Mick Byrne’s and Libby DeVenny, Pencil Case Production are a small yet pungent theatre group, whose inaugural production, a self-adapted stage version of cult film classic ‘Withnail and I’, enjoyed a sell-out season in 2014. Described as ‘one part boot polish, one part pirate’, Pencil Case Productions are an invitation to the ‘non-theatre goers’.
So get in there, get dark, get funny, & go see some kick ass local theatre!
