Interview | LATHAM'S GRIP

South Coast band, LATHAM’S GRIP, feature four lavish gents making alternative, punk-rock jams. The gents – Jesse Hepplewhite, Leland Foster, Kai Whitaker & Joel Spooner – have been producing tunes since early 2012 & have shared a stage on tour with high-profile acts including BRITISH INDIA & STICKY FINGERS.

This November (7th), LATHAM’S GRIP, will grace THE SMALL BALLROOM’S stage for their first Newcastle headline show. Sharing the stage will be Faster Than Flight, The Expol & Polar Chills.

The Follower scored a quick chat with LATHAM’S GRIP about their new record due in early 2016, their upcoming show in Newcastle & much more.

LATHAM’S GRIP has a unique sound. How would you describe it?

Probably as energetic danceable rock with a couple of beers thrown in the mix.

Who has influenced your sound?

Our influences are a little different between all of us. As a band, would have to say the J's have been the main helper though.

What makes a good show?

At the moment really loving the vibe of small rooms. The smaller the room the closer everyone is, and the happier people leave. Pretty much people just get in to music a lot more!

What can we expect at your show?

Mostly music of the rock variety with a bit of eye contact thrown in, with some good vibes to top it off, generally a fun night.

Name your creativity essentials.

A full day of us four locked in a room with our instruments, beers and maybe a little bit of cards.

You’ve shared a stage with many high-profile acts. What has been your favourite touring endeavour?

That’d have to be on our home turf in Batemans bay with The Smith Street Band. So many beers, so many people, so rowdy, but mostly so much fun.

What do you get up to in your down-time when touring?

We like to play a bit o' ping pong, have a casual toss of the football, down some pints, visit a record store or two, eat too much food; a jolly good time.

What can we expect in your new record due early 2016?

Expect to have your heart touched.
