After the huge success of Equus in March, Stooged Theatre are punching back with the Newcastle premiere of Pu

litzer Prize nominee Theresa Rebeck’s hilarious comedy Seminar at Newcastle’s Civic Playhouse this July.

A huge hit on Broadway with Alan Rickman, Seminar is a sparkling cocktail of ambition, power and lust. Four aspiring young writers have paid big bucks to seek wisdom at the feet of the fearsome Leonard - once a celebrated novelist, now a cantankerous editor, teacher and grandstanding chronicler of third-world war zones.

Under Leonard’s recklessly brilliant but brutally unorthodox tuition, competition for his approval turns fierce and the students clash. Alliances are made and broken, romances blossom and tactical schemes are hatched.

‘This play portrays every student’s worst nightmare - when these young writers give their work to Leonard for feedback it’s less like constructive criticism and more like demolition. It’s outrageously funny but also very thought-provoking’ says director John Wood.

The Stooged powers are potent with seasoned favourites & fresh-faces joining forces. Director John Wood (Love Song, Doubt) returns alongside Newcastle audience favourite Carl Caulfield (The Weir, Where Late The Songbird) who tackles Leonard with relish, & leads the exceptional ensemble of Carl Young, Emily Daly, Justin Smith and Rachael Rose Sales.

It’s sexy, it’s witty & if it’s anything like the recent work of the company it is simply not to be missed.

Be mindful that the production does contain partial nudity & sexual themes.

Seminar runs from Wednesday 22nd July until Saturday 1st of August.

Ticket prices range from $35 for adults, $30 for concession/pensioners and $25 for

anyone under the age of 30 years.

A special opening night deal sees all tickets priced $25 for the 8pm performance on Wednesday 4 March.
