CREATE2308 is a celebration of the arts!
The Festival of Creativity and Imagination, hosted by UoN Student Central, contains ideas and projects which push the boundaries of conventional art. The festivities began on the 17th August and will continue through the week. There are over 17 events covering various locations of the Callaghan campus. These events will inspire you and provoke you to reimagine your definition of art! Sculpture, interactive installations, music and videos are only the beginning…

Located within the Hunter Building - you will find the Sensory Art Space. Created by PHD student Bliss Cavanagh, this space engages the sense of touch and hearing.
“It is an experimental art space combining digital animation with virtual reality and illuminated sensory sculptures" says Cavanagh. Entering this space you are immediately transported to a new reality. This vibrant, almost psychedelic, environment offers a calm atmosphere and can function as a safe and relaxed place. The Sensory Art Space will be open all week. Be sure to check out (and get transported into) this dimension.

Continuing our course in the Hunter Building, your next stop is the Women’s and LGBTQIA Community Quilt. This interactive installation allows participants to make a collage work of textile and photomedia. They are then combined (sewed) to make a larger quilt. The project, created by Kalinda Nelson-Boyd and Emilie Amaryllis, represents women’s and LGBTQIA rights and freedom. This project creates a safe and positive environment for contributors to express their voice and their artistic tendencies. A strong community with a strong message! Go along, take a quilt square and get creative! Also in the Hunter Building you will find the Zoetrope by Dr Kris Smith where a single moment in time can be captured in a 360 degree portrait. This exciting and interactive structure is just fascinating! And there are plenty more to come. Two events that I’m particularly keen for are: “Here’s Your Alternative” (Thursday, 11.30am-2pm outside Auchmuty Courtyard) and “Post/Box: A Phone Ritual” (Friday, 11am-2pm outside Shortland Hub). Check out the full schedule here and share your experiences with the hashtag #create2308.
