- ROADTRIPPIN’ TO THE DESERT TO CELEBRATE AN ICON

2015 marks the 21st anniversary of the release of the smash hit Australian film “Priscilla Queen of the Desert”. The film became an instant icon, spawning an incredibly successful broadway musical & generating a cult-like response to much of the flamboyant aesthetic, costumery & culture that it referenced & bolstered. In essence a simple “fish out of water” story the notion of locating a trio of glamorous queens in the Aussie outback makes that desert landscape - & its bizarre characters - one of the most iconic aspects of the film as a whole.
Certainly some of the most memorable scenes of the film are those shot in the town of Broken Hill & in particular those that take place in the incredible Palace Hotel. And here is where the local connection kicks in - at the behest of the Director of the festival & current Co-Owner & Manager of the Palace Hotel, who is none other than ex-Newcastle artist Esther La Rovere, we from the Follower Studios will be taking a minibus full of kooks & performers out to the event to play, perform & have a general glamourously fantastic time. The festival includes a host of wonderful happenings & entertainment - not to mention the beautiful setting of both The Palace Hotel & the outback itself - & also present at the event the film’s director, Stephan Elliott & members of the cast.
Bus trips are running from Sydney & Melbourne & train seats are filling fast. This is a one of a kind adventure event - could it be time for a road trip?
