Beauty is, they say, in the eye of the beholder. Further still, an exploration of what brings us personal meaning and why.
We are groomed quite well into following someone else’s lead, be it business, school or your cultural collective. It can be easier to keep time to a common beat. It can be lonely to stand apart from your peers, keeping your own rhythm.
Quite often though it will be the artists who lead the way, question the collective, draw attention to an issue, explore the visionary.
The concepts that are explored on stage, are also traversed in the audience. The photographer, writer, painter, actor, singer, sculptor, technician, are all providing an experience vicariously for the voyeur. They give us an opportunity to view new worlds and taste new thoughts. They give acknowledgement and permission to our humanness. Speaking what we daren’t or are yet to discover.
There are constant invitations to explore the world through different eyes, contemplate our response and make space for change. We are extremely fortunate to have so many of these creatives who live or travel to our city and give voice to our search for meaning as people. By supporting them we are supporting ourselves.
Art is soul expression, symbolic of our wild nature, inspiration for our choices. Those that bring it are our braves. Such an understanding will deepen your experience of the arts and might even allow the arts to deepen your experience.
